Your nose and cheeks will be tender for several days. A congested feeling of face and sinuses will last for approximately 5-10 days.
Gentle placement of ice packs on cheeks for the first 24 hours is helpful for reducing swelling and pain.
Leave packing and splints in place. They are usually removed 5-7 days following surgery.
Avoid any heavy lifting (>40 lbs.) or vigorous exercise for the next 7-10 days. Such activities may result in increased swelling, bleeding and black and blue appearance of skin.
Avoid forcefully blowing nose for the next 10-14 days.
It is normal to have mild nasal bleeding for the next several days. This bleeding is usually dripping in nature and can come and go.
Congestion for the next several days to week is normal.
Swelling will peak on day 2 or 3 following surgery.
Keep nasal passages moist with saline nasal sprays.
Do not use Afrin or decongestant sprays more than two times per day.
If severe nasal bleeding occurs, call the doctor immediately.
Sometimes the after effects of surgery are quite minimal, so not all of the instructions may apply. Common sense will often dictate what you should do. However, when in doubt follow these guidelines or call our office for clarification.
